Aarav strutted down the hall. Where was everyone? Maybe they had gone to the store. No. Katlyn always left a note.

“Carter? Katlyn! Annie?” he called. The only answer was his echo. Annie always came running to him no matter what.

Aarav started backing up to the door. No. This wasn’t right. It wasn’t right. Nothing was. No note from Katlyn. No Annie. It —

Suddenly, a thick, black cloth covered his eyes. His mouth was gagged, his arms wrenched behind his back. Something stabbed the back of his neck. He winced, falling to his knees.

Falling forward, he fell unconscious.
